LOL Healthcare

You know, I didn't want to talk politics, I keep trying to avoid it, but I have this real problem with wanting to be aware of stuff going on in the world. And I make the mistake of reading commentary on news sites. Don't do that. Seriously.
So two days ago, Sunday the 20th, 2010, The United States of America turned into a leftist pinko commie fag hippie tree hugger welfare state where no-one has to work for a living anymore and we're also on the brink of economic and financial ruin. Blood is running in the streets, a coup de tat is brewing, and open armed revolt will soon come, lead by Glen Beck in a napoleon uniform, flanked on one side by Rush Limbaugh and on the other by Bill O'Reilly. They're going to lead a revolt of the people, gather the masses of teabaggers everywhere, that vast majority who has been run over by a totalitarian nazi non-citizen usurper anti-christ black man with a terrorist's name. They're going to take back the white house by force and get those damn dirty progressives the hell out of this great country. God and Jesus both wept a tear in heaven for the plight of our nation, the great defeat that has been visited upon us by the marxist stalinist evildoers who want to rape your babies and take your money.
Well, anyway, that's kind of what the world looks like according to Fox news and the various message board comments I've seen from conservative types.
So, yeah, pretty funny shit. I particularly enjoy the news stories about teabaggers yelling 'nigger' and 'faggot' and spitting at various Democratic congress members, and all of the Hitler-Obama imagery.
Personally, I'm pretty happy, but there's no need for some art nerd to go into boring details. World ain't gonna end, and for once we, as a people, actually got some half way decent shit accomplished.

Heh Heh!
He said teabagger. (sorry couldn't resist my inner 10 year old)
Glad to see you're healthy enough to sling some snark.
My brain goes all Clockwork Orange on me when there are news reports. I try to appease it with Fark, but to no avail. No matter how much I want to ignore it and play Borderlands, my brain makes me watch. "For my own good"
At the risk of reinforcing the idea that its okay for an art nerd to talk about whatever he wants on his own blog :)... The substance-free frothing of the teabagging masses was oddly entertaining in its content. Also a little terrifying in its intensity. That wasn't exactly bliss I was seeing in that ignorance. The stupid? Verily it doth burn! and, uh froth too.
As to the bill? Mostly good, mostly rough. Very well intentioned, even in the bad parts. I'm not sure its the earth-moving, legendary piece of legislation its being touted to be, but then I'm just some guy commenting on an art blog.
Did I mention I'm glad to see your healthy(er)? Now get on with whatever jiggery pokery that makes the pretty pictures!
Yes sir!
The making with the pretty pictures will be coming, fear not. I'm still coughing up what feels like a gallon of mucous every day, but I'm more or less healthy. I just finished the linework for Steamvolt 9 too, which makes me happy.
Believe it or not one of my old past day jobs used to be working on insurance contracts (for life and disability, not health insurance though), so I guess I'm a little more knowledgeable about insurance bullshit than the average Joe.
This bill is a good thing for about a thousand different reasons. It ain't perfect, and there are sloppy bits throughout it, but that's pretty much how it goes with every bill, and it's not like the bad parts can't be revised later anyway.
No more pre-existing conditions preventing people from getting coverage or putting their rates through the ceiling alone is worth the aggravation of this past year. Once the exchanges are up and running you're going to see insurance rate increases slow way down. A huge issue with current health insurance is that younger and/or healthier people generally don't want to pay a penny for insurance, meaning that the risk pool is statistically full of sick people. That drives the rates through the roof since claims become so frequent and costly compared to the group you're covering. By making everyone get on board it creates a much less costly overall pool, meaning that insurers can charge less per policy and still be profitable and competitive. You also wind up with people not having to scramble for coverage when they finally do get sick or injured; because face it, it's going to happen to all of us sooner or later, and most people don't pay it any mind when they're healthy.
This is also going to cut down on people going to the emergency room and then skipping out on the bill, helping cut hospital costs back.
Ok, ok, I'll get off my soapbox and go draw some more shit.
You have an inner 10 year-old too?
It's pretty funny how similar my post would be to yours, Shrikezero, but yours had some humor in it that I might have left out, because I'm just not usually that funny. Sad, but true. Regardless, YAY for Steamvolt coming :) I feel like the bill was beyond just rough. I wish it had been broken down into smaller parts, but with how our system works, that would leave too much risk at parts not passing that were crucial. Even so, I feel like people are running full speed ahead, but blindfolded. There is a lot getting passed that includes things which I don't agree with, but time will tell on all of it. Thanks for the entertainment, as usual.
Teabaggers
I can't say or write the word Teabagger without smirking, so yeah, guess I've got an inner 10 year old too. :D
Coup d'etat
Just FYI, the unabbreviated French is coup de etat (etat is state) which is abbreviated in French as coup d'etat.
French? English?
I have enough problems with English as it is :D
