Whoa, Jerry Falwell is Dead...
Just found out a few minutes ago that Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell died in his office, most likely of some sort of heart condition.
As an aside, wikipedia has already been updated. man the community that works on that site act fast...
This is one of those tricky sort of things where I've got a lot of conflicting emotions stirring around. One the one hand, it sucks when anyone dies. falwell probably thought he was doing the right thing in his life, and he also probably thought he had had some success at it.
On the other hand, everything I know about the guy points to him having been an extraordinary grade-A shit head while he was alive. In fact, it seems that he was such a twat that the world is probably better off without him.
This is a guy who supported the Apartheid government in South Africa, was into segregation, and supported and promoted the worst elements of ultra-conservativism and irrational, fanatical, evangelical Christianity.
In other words, a big fat bloviating roadblock to human progress. So, yeah, I'm sort of torn. I can't help but feel glad the guy's not going to be around to fuck things up anymore, and yet I feel guilt for being a little happy. Not a lot of guilt, mind you, but some. :meh:
