Life doesn't expect much from a gamer

FAIL

So I heard an amusing quote from a gamer acquaintance last night as I was moving a gigantic modular bar around for a Barfleet event that I will, saddly, not be participating in. Made all the more amusing because it was stated by a cute hippy-chic gamer in her very own home, as opposed to the stereotypical male-slovenly-fashion-impaired-still--lives-with-parents loser.

"I'm really impressed by this thing. Life doesn't really expect much out of geeks and gamers, so I'm always amazed when my friends make or do something really cool."

Well, she's got a point. Life really doesn't seem to expect much from us gamers. The bar itself is pretty impressive, being a gigantic over-engineered half bar with lights and tiling and stuff all over it, and ample room for insane amounts of alcohol. the fact that a handful of game nerds threw it together is, I suppose, all the more surprising.

I've got mixed feelings on stereotypes. They seem to be a terrible way to figure people out, and they seem to inexorably lead to harmful tribalism type behaviors, they can still be extremely funny and help people not take themselves too seriously. Howard Stern's show is pretty much all about goofing on stereotypes. Most stand up comedians goof on stereotypes. There's no getting around it: stereotypes can be seriously funny shit.

I'm always happy when people break out of their stereotypes. Conversely, it disappoints me when people fit their stereotypes too well.

Well, whatever, my train of thought has run out of steam and isn't going anywhere.

Like the pic? That's the Minesweeper Gimp: He sucks at minesweeper so you don't have to!
